Evaluation - Using conventions of real media texts - Poster
One of the tasksI had to complete was my poster. To being the research fir my poster I looked at a variety of existing posters from different genres to get an idea of what to include in different posters. Doing this souls help me and give me a insight into what the conventions and what genre I would like to do.

From doing this blog poster, it made me look at the conventions from all different genres. From this I understood that most of them have the same conventions however they are just used in a different ways to be applied to that certain genre. For example they all had ....

I did this post to see if there was a consistency in terms of layout and design and if it would differ due to the genre, and there was.
Once I had decided to focus on thriller/horror, I decided to look into the the specific genre conventions so that I would know what to include on my poster. I looked I terms of font, colour, layout and so on.

By doing this blog post, it really helped me to understand what was specific to my genre and what conventions were in a thriller/horror poster. I found a consistency in a few things such as....

There are a lot of things that I have found that are put on a poster to make it gender specific...
The main colours that are used are dull, dark colours. This is because they are usually associated with death, terror and mystery. Red is also associated with with thriller/horror films. This is because it is intense and stands out however also has connotations of blood which can be linked with violence. The colour red is used a lot for the titles because it makes them stand out on the popster. The colour red suggests to the audience that the film contains a form of intense and violent moments.
This is some text that is in red, from existing thriller/horror film posters.
This is some text from my poster, and I did what thriller/horror posters did and put my writing in red.

There is usually no specific background and if there is it is most definitely dark and not that clear to see. This is became not having a specific background, means the posters is not giving too much information away ensuring that the audience stay intrigued.
There is also unnatural lighting in a lot of posters. This light implies that there is usually something unusual that is being shown. It also suggests to the audience that although it looks like a normal setting, mysterious things will most likely happen. Sometimes there is a spotlight which is used to draw attention to a specific thing. By looking at posters I have been able to see what specifically light does in order to created a sense of uncertainty.
This image in a horror poster is very important and tells us a lot about the film. The same thing occurs in all of the thriller/horror posters I looked at. The image is either an object or a a pron which is usually the main character in the film.Whatever the picture is it usually looks isolated and alone. The main antagonist used on the posters is particularly chosen to create fear as the characters are not portrayed as being ordinary. The are tally positioned to make the audience feel intimated or uncomfortable. They can sometimes be looking straight into the camera which makes the audience feel uneasy and understand straight away that they are looking at thriller/horror poster.
From doing all of this it has given me a very clear understanding of what I needed to include in my film poster to portray everything that I wanted to.
I decided that the background colour of my poster should therefore be dark creating shadows to create mystery. I wanted the colour of my font also to be red as red has connotations of danger and violence. From my research I knew that my protagonist and antagonist should look scary and distressed representing tension between them.
The development of my poster

I spent time in making up my own cover lines, Titles billing and masthead. I made up a few name which represented my thriller the most, and did surveys to find out what one was the most popular.

The development of my poster

Here I experimented with different colours, such as black and white to see what fitted and presented my poster in the right way.
I have now taken a screen shot of each convention of a poster.
