Poster Analysis - Introduction

Before I decide which genre my film belongs to I have decided to research into the conventions of film posters from a number of different genres so I can find out what the conventions of the medium are (regardless of genre). My instinct tells me that most posters share similar conventions in terms of layout and features. I have decided to look at the posters for 'Scream' (horror), 'Ted 2' (comedy), 'The Notebook' (melodrama), 'Beauty and the Beast' (fantasy) and 'Boyhood' (drama).
